Ember Covenant

Ember Covenant is the kind of mobile RPG I keep meaning to play for twenty minutes and then look up and an hour is gone. You build a party of four, each with their own quirks and grudges, and march through a crumbling kingdom that remembers you between visits. Combat is semi-active: you queue abilities and the timing of when you fire them matters a lot.

The writing carries it. NPCs reference things you did three towns ago, and the crafting system rewards people who actually read item descriptions. I spent an embarrassing amount of time optimizing a staff that did almost nothing special, just because the process was fun.

It's generous with offline progress and never nags you to come back, which I respect. If you want a mobile RPG with real texture instead of endless tap-to-win battles, this is an easy recommendation.
